Safety Training

GERT

All experimenters at the 88-Inch Cyclotron are required to take the General Employee Radiation Training (GERT) course, which can be found here:
GERT

Building 88 On-The-Job (OJT) Training

All guests and BASE Users are required to take Building 88's On-The-Job training (NSD440 and NSD439) before they will be given card-key access and allowed in the building unescorted. Please arrive during working hours if you have not yet had this training. Please also note that closed-toed shoes and long pants are required for all areas.

Dosimeters

Dosimeters are automatically issued if you will be handling radioactive material or entering radiation areas. They are also available upon request. You may obtain a dosimeter at the Administrative Services Office. Please do not wear your dosimeter outside of the facility. You must contact the Administrative Services Office immediately if you lose, damage, or fail to return your dosimeter.

Key Card and Badge

After completion of the registration process and safety training, new users and guests will be directed to the LBNL Site Access Office (Building 65) to obtain a key card/identification badge that provides access to the Cyclotron. Please be prepared to present a picture ID to Site Access staff. You will need to see our Administrative Assistant, located in the Administrative Services Office, to activate the card upon return to the Cyclotron.

Parking

Parking permits are required at LBNL. Signs in each parking lot designate the type of permit required for that area. Cars parked in "No Parking" areas or reserved spaces without appropriate permits may be cited or towed. Users and guests, except for students, are granted a one-day parking permit at the Blackberry Gate Entrance on the first day of arrival at the Laboratory. You may obtain a parking permit for extended visits at the Site Access Office (Building 65). One permit per automobile is allowed.

Finding a parking space at LBNL can be very difficult. Users are strongly encouraged to use the LBNL Shuttle Service whenever possible when traveling between other Laboratory buildings, the U.C. Campus, City of Berkeley community, and Berkeley BART Stations (see Buses: Lab Shuttle Bus Information). This service is provided free of charge. There are a limited number of parking spaces available for users and guests in the Cyclotron parking lot. If needed, you may reserve a parking space by contacting our Administrative Assistant in advance of your arrival.

Remember...

Before leaving your home institution, users should carefully review registration procedures to ensure that all necessary documents have been forwarded to the Administrative Services Office, and that any additional documents that may be required are in their possession.
